Alberto is a Colombian practitioner who focuses his practice on international arbitration.

 

Before joining Adell & Merizalde, he worked as a law clerk in an international law firm in Bogota, where he was part of the natural resources and energy team.  At this firm, he gained experience in transactional matters, including due diligence processes, corporate, and regulatory matters.  He was also part of the team that acted as local counsel in a mining investment arbitration case.

 

Alberto was part of the team that won best memorial in the 2022 Business Freedom and Entrepreneurs' Rights Mock Trial Student Competition at the Bogota Chamber of Commerce (CCB).  Additionally, he participated in the XI International Investment Arbitration Competition of the American University Washington College of Law.

  • Part of the team that represents a Central American fruit producer in an ICC arbitration based in Miami, Florida, against one of the world's largest fruit companies concerning the termination of a long-term distribution contract.  The language of the arbitration is English and Spanish.

  • Part of the team that represented a Colombian distribution company in an ICC arbitration between an American supplier of medical technologies company concerning the termination of a distribution agreement.  The language of the arbitration was English.

  • Part of the team that acted as local counsel for a Canadian mining company in an ICSID arbitration against the Republic of Colombia concerning a dispute over mining rights for gold and silver deposits.  Over US$350 million in dispute.

  • Tribunal assistant in an ICC international arbitration between a European energy company and a European state-owned gas company.

​

  • Tribunal assistant in an international arbitration administered by the Arbitration and Mediation Center of the Santiago Chamber of Commerce (CAM Santiago) regarding a share purchase agreement.
